Ramen Bowl: sankaku × YABAI YABAI × Maruhiro

Perfect for slurping noodles (or whatever your heart desires), this limited-edition porcelain bowl is the end product of our collaboration with dream team YABAI YABAI and Maruhiro.

Beginning with the question, what if sankaku opened a ramen shop?, we put our heads together with textile designer Stacy Tan for this playful take on the traditional and well-known Chinese-style ramen bowl design in Japan. The skateboarding dragon, for example, is a nod to Maruhiro CEO Baba Kyohei’s lunchtime skateboarding ritual!

The bowl is slip-cast, then glazed and fired, with the tensha decals individually applied on the inside before a final firing. Each is a one-of-a-kind piece due to being glazed by hand and will vary from the product photographs. The unique features and quirks that present in each bowl express the hand of the artisans involved in crafting it and the unpredictable nature of the multiple firings it endured. Our ramen bowl is lovingly packed in a stylish orange box designed to evoke vinyl records.
